We were lucky enough to experience two Thanksgivings here in Korea. We even had turkey at one (chicken at the other). I thought of everyone at home over this holiday and am thankful to have such supportive family and friends. I love you and miss you.

We even had cranberry - a feat in S.K.!

I made the pies and drank the wine. My first time making pie and they were thankfully even edible!

It isn't Thanksgiving without some American football!

Vote For Me: Korean Campaigning

A few weeks ago student elections were held for ANU (Andong National University) student body president. And, this being Korea, things weren’t exactly as I expected. Instead of speaking, handing out fliers, and talking about change for the future, instead of all that, the candidates danced. Yes, danced. I’m not sure it the winner had the best dance team or what, but it was pretty entertaining for me.

A Taste of K-Pop

K-pop, Korean pop, is quite a site. It reminds me of the 90′s, New Kids on the Block era. People go crazy for K-pop, which is what I got to witness last Thursday.

On Thursday our university hosted the 2011 College Song Contest. It was a big deal and getting tickets was a bit of a hassle as you had to get a pre-ticket to stand in line to get an actual ticket. I skipped over all of this by being a criminal, but the guards didn’t seem to mind. We just walked in back stage and found a place to stand. I don’t know if the security was not good or if it was our “foreigner power”. Either way, I’m glad we got in.

Lee, Hyori

The host of the night was Lee, Hyori, a big star in Korea. When I asked my students why she was a big star they responded with “sexy body”. Whatever that meant, it was fun to see her, the Wonder Girls, and my favorite UV. Despite it being like a sauna in the auditorium I made it through the whole concert but probably wouldn’t have stood in line to see it.

Lately…

Lately, Kyle and I have been busy, like always, but we’ve had a dash of fun thrown in here and there.

We did sell our scooter, so no more zooming around.

Kyle had a friend visit, we snuck into a big concert, judged an English contest, went to a Thanksgiving celebration and hosted another one, and put up our Christmas tree. Good times, fast times (even without the scooter). I hope everyone had a lovely and grateful Thanksgiving.

Halloween. One of my favorite holidays. I hope everyone had a great Halloween weekend and is still enjoying it and eating candy today! I did some fun Halloween activities with my students today and it was a nice mix up from the usual. Kyle and I also had a pretty rocking Halloween party on Saturday night. I was “Black Swan” (like the movie) and Kyle was a “money face” (like on a coin). Good times, good times.

As always time is flying and the days turn to weeks, months….gone. Kyle and I have been busy but mostly with work stuff. We went to an inspiring teaching conference in Seoul and are hosting a Halloween party next week. Otherwise work, work, work !
